The Minds On Approach in Early Childhood

Creating meaningful, joyful and socially interactive experiences for your child while learning at home.

This is a 4 module program designed by Early Childhood experts and professors Maricar De Ocampo and Claudette Tandoc to help parents better understand how to support their child's learning and development.

Nowadays, it is no longer just about being hands on, it's also about making sure that our children's minds are actively engaged and their learning experiences will allow them to discover and understand the world around them better. 

Session 1:

Theories and Developmental Stages in Early Childhood

​

This session will allow parents to understand the basic theories and developmental stages of children in their early childhood (0-8 years old). We will create opportunities throughout the workshop to allow parents realize how these theories are applied in real life. 

Session 2:

21st Century Skills:

Learning through Play and Inquiry

Guest Speaker: Eda Go 

This session will allow parents to see the value of play in children's development and how it helps develop the different domains of a young child. We will also discover how to apply inquiry based learning approach in home school learning environment and understand how this plays a role in developing 21st century skills. 

Session 3:

Understanding Behavioral, Social and Emotional Development of Young Children

​

This session will allow parents to understand the social and emotional developmental stages of young children. We will explore on how to implement positive behavioral management techniques and how to build a positive relationship and connection with young children. 

Session 4:

Designing Learning Environments

and Resources at Home

​

Guest Speakers: Donna Pangilinan Simpao MD and Liana Lim Cruz

​

This session will be filled with practical resources for teaching and learning from home. We will share how to create meaningful experiences with your child that will develop their interest in learning and make it a fun and exciting experience for them. We will also share some useful resources to enhance your children's learning experiences.

Maricar Gustilo de Ocampo

Professor Ma. Carolina G. De Ocampo is a great force that has transformed many educational establishments in the Philippines in realizing the value of play in Early Childhood settings. She has inspired countless students in having a deep understanding on progressive education as a professor in De La Salle University- Brother Andrew Gonzalez College of Education in the Educational Leadership and Management Department and Masters Program in Early Childhood Education since 2000. She finished her Masters in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from BankStreet College of Education, New York. She is also a co-founder of Keys School Manila.

Claudette Tandoc

Professor Katherine Claudette A. Tandoc, also known as Teacher Claude, has been teaching young children and college students for more than 25 years. 

She taught in the college & graduate programs of the Department of Family Life & Child Development (FLCD) at the University of the Philippines- Diliman, De La Salle University, National University, San Beda College, Alabang, Olivarez College, and Trinity College. 

She is a curriculum consultant of various schools in Metro Manila, and a resource person for Wyeth Philippines, conducting lectures and workshops for pediatricians nationwide.

Liana Lim-Cruz M.S. Ed 

Donna Simpao, M.D.

Liana , after graduating college, immediately started teaching at Explorations Preschool, one of the most respected preschools in Manila. Within a few years she decided to pursue and develop her teaching by studying for her Master’s degree Early Childhood
Education at the Bank Street College in New York. After which she again continued working as a Senior Teacher at Explorations.

 

Fast forward today Liana is now homeschooling her 2 year old daughter Nadia, who became her inspiration for creating this program. She believes in the power of play in the early years and that parents can be their child’s best first teacher. Her knowledge, skills and years practical classroom experience helped make KCC one of the most dynamic guides for parents today.

After being immersed in the Filipino homeschool community for 17 years, Donna, has become of the highly respected advocates of homeschooling. She holds a Psychology and Medical Degree from the University of the Philippines. Through her years of
experience and interaction with hundreds of parents interested in trying to homeschool she realized the need to create a local and more relevant material for Filipino homeschoolers. Donna looks back with great fondness and affection at her preschool homeschooling days with her 4 children.

She was then moved to help other parents have the chance to enjoy their children’s preschool years and at the same time, build a strong holistic foundation for proper growth and development through the KCC.

Eda is an advocate for IBL (inquiry based learning) approach. She believes in giving children agency to enrich their learning experiences. She has  been teaching for 13 years now and she continues to enjoy sharing her practices with other educators and parents.

She hopes that through constant sharing of best practices with one another, we can develop young children who care for a better world.
